Rivulus cylindraceus
Also known as: Cuban Killifish, Brown Rivulus
Origin: Cuba
Rivulus cylindraceus is found throughout Cuba's freshwater streams and pools, making it one of the few killifish endemic to the Caribbean. Males develop attractive red-brown spotting over an olive-green body. It is a plant-spawner, depositing adhesive eggs on fine-leaved plants or spawning mops. Hardier than many killifish, it tolerates cooler temperatures.
Water: 20–26°C, pH 6.5–8.0, adaptable; tolerates moderately hard water. Tank: 40L minimum, tight lid, spawning mops or fine plants for egg deposition. Feeding: Carnivore — live/frozen daphnia, bloodworm; accepts micro-pellets. Behaviour: Generally peaceful; mild rivalry between males. Compatibility: Compatible with small-medium peaceful community fish.
