Neolamprologus pulcher
Also known as: Daffodil Cichlid, Daffodil Brichardi
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
Neolamprologus pulcher closely resembles N. brichardi and was long considered the same species; it is now recognised as distinct and displays a more pronounced golden-yellow wash particularly in breeding condition. Both species share the same fascinating cooperative colony breeding behaviour and are suitable for similar setups. Reliable spawners that quickly populate a well-managed aquarium.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, hard alkaline water. Tank: 120L+ for a colony of 8-12; stacked limestone or slate rockwork. Feeding: Quality flake, micropellet, and occasional frozen brine shrimp or cyclops. Behaviour: Colony with helpers at the nest; older juveniles assist in fry guarding. Compatibility: Cyprichromis, Paracyprichromis, or Neolamprologus multifasciatus as sandzone fish.
