Oryzias woworae
Also known as: Daisy's Ricefish, Neon Medaka
Origin: Sulawesi, Indonesia
Oryzias woworae was described from Flores Island, Sulawesi, Indonesia, where it inhabits shallow, warm, mineral-rich springs and lake margins. Males are extraordinarily vivid, combining electric blue dorsal and caudal fins with a deep orange-red body flush, making them among the most colourful of all medaka species. The species breeds readily, with females carrying egg clusters, and is highly recommended for species tanks or Sulawesi biotopes.
Water: 24–28 °C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderately hard preferred (GH 8–18). Tank: 30 L minimum; well-planted, warm, slightly alkaline water. Feeding: Omnivore — micro pellets, baby brine shrimp, Daphnia, crushed flake. Behaviour: Peaceful and active; keep in groups of 6+ with more females than males. Compatibility: Sulawesi community fish; avoid cold-water or very soft-water species.
