Danio kyathit
Also known as: Longfin Ocelot Danio
Origin: Myanmar
The Longfin form of Danio kyathit, the Ocelot Danio, features dramatically elongated fins that transform an already attractive species into a genuinely striking aquarium fish. Danio kyathit originates from northern Myanmar and is characterised by a variable pattern of spots and horizontal dashes that can resemble an ocelot's coat under certain light. The longfin morph extends the dorsal, caudal, and other fins considerably, producing a veil-like appearance that shows best in calm, clear water. Because of the extended finnage, current should be gentle and fin-nipping tankmates must be excluded. Care otherwise parallels standard Danio kyathit: clean, moderately cool water, groups of six or more, and a varied diet of flakes, pellets, and frozen foods.
Water: Temperature 18–26 °C, pH 6.5–7.5, GH 4–12; gentle to moderate flow; fins need calm conditions. Tank: 60 L minimum; planted community tank; avoid sharp decor; secure lid. Feeding: Flake, micro-pellet, frozen daphnia, cyclops, and baby brine shrimp. Breeding: Egg-scatterer; longfin trait heritable; mop or fine plants in separate tank. Compatibility: Peaceful; strictly no fin-nippers; good with small tetras, rasboras, and corydoras.
