Danio margaritatus
Also known as: Pyjama CPD, Striped Celestial Pearl Danio
Origin: Myanmar (Shan State)
The Pyjama Form of Danio margaritatus is a rare colour variant of the Celestial Pearl Danio in which the characteristic white pearl spots on the body are replaced by, or merge into, bold horizontal stripes giving the fish a distinctly striped appearance reminiscent of pyjama fabric. This morph arises through selective breeding and is sought after by nano enthusiasts and CPD collectors. All care requirements are identical to the standard Celestial Pearl Danio: the fish demands a mature, heavily planted nano tank with very gentle flow, soft to moderately hard slightly acidic to neutral water, and micro-sized foods. It is shy and benefits from dense planting providing refuge. Males display intensely coloured orange-red fins and can be mildly aggressive toward each other. Keep in mixed-sex groups with extra females.
Water: Temperature 20–26 °C, pH 6.5–7.5, GH 5–12; gentle filtration; mature tank essential. Tank: 30 L minimum; heavily planted nano tank; dark substrate to enhance colour; sponge or gentle filter. Feeding: Micro-pellet, baby brine shrimp, cyclops, and daphnia; micro-foods only. Breeding: Spawns in fine-leaved plants; males guard territory; separate fry tank for best survival. Compatibility: Peaceful with equally tiny nano species; avoid boisterous or large tankmates.
