Neocaridina davidi var. 'Chocolate'
Also known as: Chocolate Neocaridina, Dark Chocolate Shrimp, Brown Neocaridina
Origin: Selectively bred; base species from Taiwan and China
The Dark Brown Chocolate Shrimp is a selectively bred Neocaridina davidi color morph expressing rich, warm chocolate-brown to dark sepia body coloration. Less commonly seen than red, blue, or black Neocaridina morphs, the Chocolate Shrimp provides a natural, earthy aesthetic that complements Dutch-style planted tanks and biotope-inspired aquariums. Retaining the full hardiness and prolific breeding nature of standard Neocaridina, Chocolate Shrimp adapt well to a wide range of tap water conditions and breed readily without specialized care. They coexist peacefully with small fish, snails, and other invertebrates, making them a versatile addition to community aquariums.
Water: pH 6.5–8.0, TDS 150–400 ppm, temperature 18–28°C; standard tap water acceptable. Tank: 20+ litres; planted; dark substrate enhances chocolate tone contrast. Feeding: Biofilm, algae, blanched vegetables, standard shrimp pellets. Breeding: Prolific; select darkest-brown specimens for breeding to maintain morph depth. Compatibility: Peaceful; community-safe with small, non-predatory tankmates.
