Datnioides microlepis
Origin: Mekong and Chao Phraya basins, Southeast Asia
The Siamese Tigerfish is a prized predatory species from large river systems of Southeast Asia, with a deep, laterally compressed body boldly patterned in alternating gold and black vertical bands. Its bold coloration, intriguing personality, and willingness to become hand-tame make it a popular display species for large aquariums. A dedicated piscivore that must not be kept with smaller fish and requires pristine water quality.
Requires a very large aquarium (600L+). Keep only with fish too large to eat. Feed live or thawed fish, large prawns, krill. Pristine water quality essential — sensitive to deterioration. Can be trained onto prepared foods over time. Provide open swimming space and subdued lighting. One of the most spectacular large freshwater display fish.
