About

Dawkinsia filamentosa, the Filament Barb, is an ornate barb from the Western Ghats of India where large dominant males develop spectacular elongated dorsal fin filaments and vivid rosy-red coloration. A strikingly beautiful barb for the larger community aquarium, best kept in groups where the competition between males brings out their best colours and finnage displays.

Care Guide

Keep in groups of 6+ with more females than males to distribute male competition. Provide open swimming space with planted margins. Feed quality flake, micro-pellets, frozen artemia and bloodworms. Soft to moderately hard water. Males colour up most dramatically when competing for female attention. A rewarding and impressive barb for larger tanks.
