Cirrhilabrus bathyphilus
Origin: Coral Sea, deep mesophotic reef
Cirrhilabrus bathyphilus inhabits mesophotic reef zones well below normal scuba depths in the Coral Sea, giving it an exceptionally rare status in the hobby. Males display a rich brick-red to crimson coloration with iridescent scale centers. Careful slow-pressure decompression is required during shipping, and pristine, stable water quality is essential for long-term success in captivity.
Provide a mature, well-established reef system with dense rockwork and excellent water quality. Acclimate very slowly over 2–4 hours using the drip method. Feed a varied carnivore diet including small mysis, copepods, and high-quality marine pellets twice daily. Keep singly or as a mated pair. A covered tank is essential as fairy wrasses are strong jumpers.
