Also known as: Deeper Hap, Electra Hap
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa
The Deeper Hap inhabits sandy-bottomed depths in Lake Malawi where it forages for invertebrates and organic matter. It is a relatively calm species suited to a peaceful peacock and hap community with plenty of open swimming space.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.5-9.0, hard alkaline water; good oxygenation due to natural deep-water origin. Tank: Minimum 300L; fine sandy substrate with open swimming space. Feeding: Quality sinking cichlid pellets, frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and occasional bloodworm. Behaviour: Peaceful and non-aggressive; males display to females with subtle colour intensification. Compatibility: Peacock and hap communities; compatible with most mid-sized rift lake species.
