Demini Snowflake Pleco L102

Baryancistrus niveatus L102, the Demini Snowflake Pleco, is a premium and rare form of the Snowflake Pleco complex collected specifically from the Rio Demini tributary of the Rio Negro in Brazil. It is distinguished from standard Snowflake Plecos by the extraordinary density of its white spotting — in the finest specimens the white virtually overwhelms the black base, creating a brilliant, snow-dusted appearance unlike anything else in the loricariid hobby.

As a blackwater Baryancistrus from the Rio Demini, it requires very soft, acidic conditions: pH 4.5–6.5, low conductivity, warm temperatures of 26–30°C. It demands the same strong flow and excellent oxygenation typical of all Baryancistrus. A minimum 200 L aquarium with smooth boulders, caves, and driftwood is required. Diet is omnivorous with a lean toward biofilm and algae-based foods supplemented with occasional meaty treats.

The Demini Snowflake is an advanced-keeper species due to its combination of demanding blackwater chemistry requirements, considerable size (25 cm), and premium price reflecting its rarity and spectacular appearance. It is semi-aggressive toward other large plecos and should be the sole specimen of its type in the aquarium.

Water: 26–30°C, pH 4.5–6.5, very soft blackwater; low conductivity essential; avoid all hard or alkaline water. Tank: Minimum 200 L; smooth boulders, caves, driftwood, dark substrate; strong flow and oxygenation. Feeding: Omnivore; algae wafers, Repashy, Snowflake Extreme, occasional bloodworms and brine shrimp. Breeding: Cave spawner; very rarely achieved; large, mature, stable blackwater setup required. Compatibility: Semi-aggressive toward other large plecos; peaceful with robust dissimilar community fish.
