About

Sahyadria denisonii, the Denison Barb or Miss Kerala, is a stunning large barb from the fast-flowing rivers of the Western Ghats in India. Its torpedo-shaped body displays a vivid red and black lateral stripe and yellow fin markings. An active schooling fish that requires a spacious tank with good flow. Now IUCN-listed; only buy captive-bred specimens.

Care Guide

Keep in schools of 5+ in at least 200 L with good filtration and flow. Feed quality flake, pellets, and frozen foods. Peaceful with most community fish of similar size. Very active swimmers — need lots of open space. Prefer cooler, well-oxygenated water. Excellent biotope fish for a Western Ghats river setup.
