Desjardin's Sailfin Tang (Zebrasoma desjardinii)

The Desjardin's Sailfin Tang is the Indian Ocean counterpart to the Pacific Sailfin Tang, sharing the same impressive sail-like finnage but with a finer, more intricate vertical banding pattern and subtle spotting. It is a spectacular display fish when its large dorsal and anal fins are fully extended during feeding or social interactions. Like all sailfins, it requires a large, roomy aquarium to accommodate its eventual size.

Provide a spacious aquarium with ample open swimming area. Feed a diet rich in marine algae — nori sheets on a clip daily, spirulina-based frozen foods, and quality herbivore pellets. Moderately aggressive toward other tangs of similar body shape; introduce last if adding to a community reef. Reef-safe with corals and sessile invertebrates.
