Lobophytum pauciflorum
Origin: Indo-Pacific, Australia
Lobophytum pauciflorum earns its common name from its finger-like lobes fanning outward from a central base. Its surface hosts two distinct polyp types — larger autozooids and tiny siphonozooids — creating a distinctive velvety texture when fully extended. This robust coral adapts well to reef aquarium conditions and is highly recommended for beginners entering the soft coral hobby.
Place in moderate flow with low to medium lighting. Periodically sheds a thin mucus layer as part of natural self-cleaning — this is normal and should not be confused with illness. Propagates easily from cuttings. May occasionally release secondary metabolites that irritate other corals — ensure adequate water flow and skimming. Allow adequate space from neighboring corals as it will compete chemically.
