Nanochromis dimidiatus
Also known as: Dimidiatus Dwarf Cichlid
Origin: Central Africa (Congo River)
Nanochromis dimidiatus is found in the Congo River and its tributaries, recognised by its distinct two-toned body and ornate lyretail in males. It shares the genus' requirement for extremely soft, acidic water and will not thrive or breed without it. The species is uncommonly available and cherished by those who specialise in West African cichlids.
Water: 24–27°C, pH 5.5–6.8, very soft water (GH 1–5). Tank: Minimum 60L; flat stones for territory markers, caves for spawning, driftwood. Feeding: Micro pellets, frozen cyclops, daphnia, and occasional live artemia nauplii. Behaviour: Cave-spawning; females guard eggs while males patrol territory perimeter. Compatibility: Best in species-only or with very small, non-competitive tetras at upper levels.
