Cyprinus rubrofuscus
Origin: Captive bred (Japan)
Doitsu Kohaku is the scaleless or partially scaled form of the classic Kohaku, showing red and white patterning on a smooth, almost scale-free body. The absence of scales reveals the true skin coloration and gives a uniquely clean, contemporary aesthetic compared to fully-scaled koi. A sophisticated and attractive variety for ponds and water gardens.
Requires a well-filtered pond of 1,000L+. Feed quality koi pellets seasonally. Reduce feeding below 10°C and stop below 6°C. Doitsu koi are sometimes considered slightly more sensitive than fully-scaled varieties — maintain excellent water quality. Provide minimum 1m depth for winter. Best with other koi varieties for a varied display.
