Cyprinus rubrofuscus
Also known as: Doitsu Koi, Scaleless Koi, Mirror Scale Koi
Origin: Germany/Japan
Doitsu koi carry German carp genetics that result in either no scales (scaleless) or just two rows of large mirror scales along the back and lateral line, giving the fish a sleek, smooth appearance. This scale pattern makes colors appear cleaner and sharper. Doitsu variants exist in many koi types including Kohaku, Sanke, Showa, and Ogon.
Water: 5–25°C, pH 6.8–7.8, clean water prevents skin irritation on the exposed scaleless areas. Pond: minimum 1,000 L; the smooth skin is slightly more sensitive to parasites — monitor closely. Feeding: standard koi pellets in appropriate sizes; two daily feedings in active seasons. Behaviour: active and social; the scaleless body gives a distinctive shimmering appearance. Compatibility: all koi varieties; no special compatibility considerations.
