Columbella mercatoria
Origin: Caribbean Sea
Columbella mercatoria, the Dove Snail, is a tiny oval-shelled snail with attractive spotted or banded markings. It grazes on diatom films, cyanobacteria, and microalgae on glass, rock, and substrate surfaces. Its diminutive size and peaceful nature make it one of the best choices for nano reef cleanup crews where larger snails would be disruptive.
Introduce in small groups of 3–5 for effective nano reef cleaning. Requires no direct feeding — they graze continuously. Ensure adequate calcium and alkalinity for healthy shell maintenance. Compatible with all corals and peaceful reef fish. Avoid aggressive or shell-crushing fish such as puffers and triggers.
