Pelvicachromis drachenfelsi
Also known as: Drachenfels Krib
Origin: West Africa (Cameroon)
Pelvicachromis drachenfelsi was formally described in recent years from drainages in southern Cameroon, adding to the growing list of recognised Pelvicachromis species. It is a secretive cave-spawning cichlid with attractive patterning that distinguishes it from closely related taxa. Soft acidic water and a mature, well-planted aquarium are key to successful keeping.
Water: 24–27°C, pH 5.5–7.0, soft to medium hardness. Tank: Minimum 80L; caves are essential; use driftwood and plant cover to create territories. Feeding: Micro pellets, frozen brine shrimp, cyclops, daphnia, and occasional live foods. Behaviour: Pair-bonding cave brooder; territorial during spawning but manageable in well-structured tanks. Compatibility: Suitable with small, peaceful tetras and killifish at higher water levels.
