Danionella dracula
Origin: Myanmar (Irrawaddy River basin)
Danionella dracula is a fascinating and scientifically remarkable nano fish from the Irrawaddy River basin in Myanmar, notable for males bearing bony fang-like projections from the jaw — an extraordinary feature for a cyprinid. Despite its fearsome name, this tiny nearly-transparent fish is completely harmless and feeds on microorganisms. It produces surprisingly loud sounds relative to its body size, making it a unique conversation piece in a species nano setup.
Maintain in a small species or biotope nano tank with soft, slightly acidic water. Feed micro live foods: micro worms, daphnia nauplii, artemia nauplii, infusoria. Keep in groups of 8+. Very sensitive to water quality — perform regular partial changes. Dim lighting and fine-leafed plants preferred. Rarely seen in trade — source from specialist breeders.
