Stonogobiops dracula
Origin: Western Pacific
The Dracula Shrimpgoby earns its dramatic name from its pale body adorned with dark cape-like blotches and a strikingly high first dorsal fin that it raises as a display and warning signal. Like other Stonogobiops species, it forms a remarkable mutualistic burrowing partnership with pistol shrimp that is fascinating to observe in a reef aquarium. A sandy substrate of sufficient depth is required for burrowing.
Provide a sandy substrate at least 5–8 cm deep for burrowing. Pair with a compatible Alpheid pistol shrimp (Alpheus randalli is a natural partner) for the authentic symbiotic relationship. Feed meaty foods including mysis and small marine pellets daily. Provide a covered aquarium as gobies will jump from open-top tanks when alarmed.
