Aulonocara sp. 'Dragonblood'
Also known as: Dragon Blood Peacock, Dragonblood Peacock
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa (captive-bred hybrid)
The Dragon Blood Peacock is a captive-selected hybrid strain developed for its intense red, orange, and pink colouration that covers the entire body. Males develop full colour at around 8-12 months and are best maintained in a peacock/hap community with open sandy substrate and moderate rockwork.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.5-9.0, hard alkaline water with good filtration. Tank: Minimum 200L; sandy substrate with scattered rocks for territory definition. Feeding: Quality cichlid pellets and frozen foods; avoid high-carotenoid supplements which can alter natural colouration. Behaviour: Males are territorial; keep as one male with 3-5 females or in a large mixed peacock community. Compatibility: African rift lake peacocks and haps; avoid mbuna and other fin-nipping species.
