Novaculichthys taeniourus
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Novaculichthys taeniourus, the Dragon Wrasse, is a species with a dramatic juvenile-to-adult colour transformation. Juveniles are white with reddish-brown blotching and flowing dorsal fin filaments, mimicking drifting algae — extraordinary camouflage. Adults transition to a green-blue body with white and yellow patterning. Juveniles are the most commonly sold form. They must be provided with a sand bed to sleep in and can be aggressive as adults. Predatory toward small invertebrates.
5 cm+ sand bed for sleeping. Large tank 300+ L for adults. Standard reef parameters. Feed meaty frozen foods and pellets. Juvenile is peaceful; adults can be semi-aggressive. Not safe with small invertebrates. Secure lid.
