Novaculichthys taeniourus
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Novaculichthys taeniourus — the dragon wrasse — undergoes one of the most dramatic colour transformations in the fish world. Juveniles are white with dark spots and long, flowing fin filaments that drift in the current as camouflage. As adults, they transition to a completely different green and brown patterned phase. Juveniles are among the most visually striking fish available. Adults are large and require very large systems.
Juvenile: 200+ L. Adult: 400+ L. Deep sandbed (10+ cm) for sleeping and burrowing. Feed: meaty live and frozen foods. Not reef-safe with invertebrates as adults.
