Betta splendens
Also known as: Dumbo Ear Plakat, Elephant Ear Plakat, EE Plakat
Origin: Southeast Asia
The dumbo ear plakat merges the vigorous, short-finned plakat body type with dramatically enlarged pectoral fins. The result is an active and surprisingly agile fish whose large pectorals flutter as it swims. These fish are popular in both show and home aquarium settings.
Water: 26-30°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to medium hardness — sponge filtration helps protect delicate pectorals. Tank: minimum 20L, planted; tight lid required as plakats are strong jumpers. Feeding: carnivore — betta pellets, frozen bloodworm, mosquito larvae; twice daily. Behaviour: males aggressive to conspecifics; the plakat body makes them highly active and alert. Compatibility: compatible with peaceful community fish that will not nip the pectoral fins.
