Pollimyrus isidori
Also known as: Dwarf Elephant Nose, Isidori's Mormyrid
Origin: West/Central Africa
Pollimyrus isidori is one of the smaller mormyrids commonly encountered in the aquarium trade, with a less dramatically extended snout than Gnathonemus but sharing the same weakly electric sensory system. It is a delicate species requiring pristine water quality and a calm, dimly lit aquarium. It feeds primarily on small benthic invertebrates.
Water: 23–27°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to medium hardness; excellent water quality mandatory. Tank: Minimum 100L; dim lighting, sand substrate, dense planting, and caves for shelter. Feeding: Live or frozen bloodworm, tubifex, daphnia, and small earthworm pieces. Behaviour: Shy and secretive; most active after lights out; aggressive to conspecifics in small spaces. Compatibility: Best alone or with very peaceful, non-competitive mid-water species.
