Trichogaster lalius
Origin: South Asia (India — captive-bred red variety)
The Red Dwarf Gourami is a selectively bred form of the Dwarf Gourami displaying a vivid red colouration across much of its body. A labyrinth fish that breathes atmospheric air, it is a peaceful and colourful community centrepiece for planted aquariums. One of the most popular small gouramis in the Belgian and Dutch hobby.
Keep in a planted aquarium with calm water and floating cover. Do not keep multiple males in small tanks — mild aggression between males. Feed quality flake, micro-pellets, frozen artemia. Ensure the fish can access the water surface to breathe air. Somewhat susceptible to Dwarf Gourami Iridovirus (DGIV) — source from reputable breeders.
