Parotocinclus sp.
Also known as: Dwarf Otocinclus, Dwarf Oto
Origin: South America (Brazil, Peru)
Parotocinclus species are close relatives of Otocinclus, often reaching only 3 cm in length, making them among the smallest suckermouth catfish available. They are efficient grazers of diatoms and soft green algae in established planted tanks. Their diminutive size suits them perfectly to nano aquariums where larger algae eaters would be inappropriate.
Water: 21–26°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard (GH 2–12). Tank: 40 L minimum; mature planted tank with established biofilm; gentle filtration. Feeding: Biofilm, diatoms, and soft green algae; supplement with blanched zucchini and algae wafers. Behaviour: Peaceful micro-schooler; keep in groups of 6+. Compatibility: Perfect for nano tanks with micro fish, shrimp, and small snails.
