Carinotetraodon travancoricus
Origin: Kerala, South India
Carinotetraodon travancoricus, the Dwarf Puffer, is one of the most popular and endearing small freshwater fish. At just 2.5–3 cm it is the world's smallest puffer fish. Originating from rivers in Kerala, South India, it is a dedicated snail predator that will systematically hunt down and consume every pond snail and trumpet snail in the tank. Highly intelligent and personable, it recognises individual keepers and 'begs' for food. Best kept in a species-only tank or with fast-moving fish; it nips fins relentlessly.
Species tank strongly recommended — nips fins of slow or long-finned fish. Groups: 1 male per 3+ females minimises aggression. Temperature 24–28 °C, soft slightly acidic water. Feed live snails as primary food; supplement with frozen bloodworm and daphnia. Refuses most dry foods.
