Nothobranchius eggersi
Also known as: Egger's Nothobranch, Egger's Killifish
Origin: Coastal Tanzania
Nothobranchius eggersi inhabits seasonal floodplain pools along the Tanzanian coast, completing its life cycle within a single wet season. Males show striking red-orange colouration with iridescent turquoise scale margins, while females are a plain olive-brown. The eggs are deposited in soft substrate and undergo diapause, making this an excellent candidate for the experienced peat-incubation killifish keeper.
Water: 20–26 °C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft water preferred. Tank: 30 L species tank; peat substrate for egg laying; tightly fitting lid required. Feeding: Live/frozen Daphnia, Artemia, and micro worms daily. Behaviour: Males fight; keep one male per tank or a trio with two females. Compatibility: Species tank only; eggs need dry storage to complete development.
