Paracheilinus octotaenia
Origin: Red Sea, Gulf of Aden
The Eight-line Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus octotaenia) is one of the most visually captivating members of the flasher wrasse genus. Males display eight iridescent blue horizontal lines across a vivid red and orange body, and during spawning or rival displays they fan out elaborate fin extensions in a breathtaking 'flashing' show. Native to the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, this species thrives in small harems of one dominant male and several females in an appropriately sized aquarium. Peaceful and active, it is an excellent choice for reef tanks where open swimming space and live rock are available.
Maintain in a well-established reef or FOWLR system with a secure lid — flasher wrasses are notorious jumpers. A 150-liter or larger tank with open sand areas and live rock provides ideal conditions. House with one male and two or more females; avoid keeping multiple males together. Feed twice daily with frozen mysis, cyclopeeze, and small marine preparations. Peaceful with most reef inhabitants.
