Elachocharax pulcher
Origin: Upper Amazon and Orinoco, South America
Elachocharax pulcher is a diminutive and rarely seen micro-characin from the upper Amazon and Orinoco blackwater streams, reaching barely 2cm in length. Its tiny size and preference for pristine, highly acidic soft water make it a demanding species best reserved for specialist keepers who can maintain stable, appropriate conditions. In a carefully designed nano or species aquarium with leaf litter and dim lighting, it can be observed feeding on tiny microorganisms.
Maintain extremely soft, highly acidic blackwater (pH 4.0–6.0) with minimal hardness. Species-only or very carefully selected nano biotope setup essential. Feed infusoria, paramecia, and the finest micro live foods only. Minimal water movement. Leaf litter essential. One of the most demanding nano fish in the hobby — for experienced specialists only.
