Andinoacara pulcher
Also known as: High Colour Electric Blue Acara, EBA High Colour, Premium EBA
Origin: Captive bred (South America)
The Electric Blue Acara High Colour represents the pinnacle of EBA selective breeding, with breeders dedicating multiple generations to maximising colour saturation, uniformity, and the extent of electric blue coverage across the body. Compared to standard EBA strains, High Colour individuals display a more vivid, deeper blue with less colour variation between scales and a more consistent iridescent expression across the entire body surface.
High Colour EBA specimens are typically produced by specialist breeders who rigorously cull non-conforming offspring and maintain strict pair selection protocols. The result is a fish that commands a premium price but delivers exceptional display quality that makes it one of the most eye-catching cichlids available at any size.
Care requirements are identical to standard Electric Blue Acara. The High Colour designation reflects colour grade rather than any difference in husbandry needs or temperament.
Water: 23–28°C, pH 6.5–7.5; stable, clean water essential to maintain premium colour quality. Tank: Minimum 200L; community suitable; provide high-quality lighting to showcase the electric blue colouration. Feeding: Omnivore; high-quality pellets with colour-enhancing ingredients; varied frozen foods. Breeding: Breeds as per standard EBA; High Colour trait breeds true from paired High Colour parents. Compatibility: Semi-aggressive; excellent community cichlid with medium-large fish.
