Corydoras elegans
Origin: Peru, Ecuador, Brazil (western Amazon basin)
Corydoras elegans is a mid-water swimming cory from the western Amazon in Peru, Ecuador, and Brazil that differs from most cories in its habit of exploring the mid and upper water column as well as the bottom. Males develop striking black markings on the dorsal and caudal fins at spawning time. Active and hardy — an excellent choice for community aquariums where its unusual swimming behaviour adds interest.
Provide fine sand substrate even though it swims higher than typical cories. Keep in groups of 6+. Feed sinking wafers and floating micro-pellets — this species actively feeds throughout the water column. Soft, slightly acidic to neutral water preferred. Hardy and adaptable. An underrated and interesting cory species.
