Stiphodon elegans
Origin: Southeast Asia and Pacific islands (amphidromous — freshwater adult phase)
Stiphodon elegans is a breathtakingly colourful freshwater goby from fast-flowing streams of various Pacific islands and Southeast Asia, where males display vivid neon-blue, orange, and black patterning. An amphidromous species that spends its larval phase at sea but is fully adapted to freshwater as an adult. Requires a mature, high-flow setup with good algae and biofilm growth for grazing.
Provide a mature aquarium with strong flow and excellent oxygenation. Rocks, smooth pebbles, and hard surfaces with natural biofilm and algae growth are essential food sources. Feed algae wafers and blanched vegetables as supplement. Males territorial — provide ample territory. Cool water (22–26°C) and high oxygen critical. Not for beginners.
