Pseudotropheus elongatus
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa (Chisumulu Island, Likoma Island)
Pseudotropheus elongatus is a slender, torpedo-shaped Mbuna from the rocky shorelines of Lake Malawi, where it picks invertebrates from the biofilm on boulders. Males exhibit bold vertical barring on a blue base giving a dramatic appearance. Highly aggressive toward conspecifics — keep with other robust Mbuna in a heavily rocked tank with plenty of territories.
Provide a densely rockscaped tank (200L+) with numerous caves and line-of-sight breaks. Maintain hard, alkaline Malawi water. Keep 1 male to multiple females to reduce male-on-male aggression. Feed quality cichlid pellets with plant matter content. Avoid housing with similar-looking mbuna that may trigger excessive aggression.
