Pseudochromis elongatus
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Pseudochromis elongatus is an unusually slender, almost eel-like dottyback that differs markedly from the typical stocky dottyback body plan. Its mottled brown-yellow coloration with pale underside blends effectively with rubble and rocky substrate, reflecting its origins in deeper reef habitats across the Indo-Pacific. It spends most of its time threading through crevices in live rock and rarely ventures into open water. While less colorful than some dottybacks, it is a fascinating and behaviorally interesting species for intermediate marine aquarists willing to provide adequate rockwork and territory.
Provide an aquarium of at least 115 liters with abundant live rock, caves, and rubble zones for shelter and territory. Can be semi-aggressive toward similarly shaped or smaller fish; house carefully and ideally add last to the tank community. Feed twice daily with frozen mysis, marine pellets, or other meaty foods. A secure lid is recommended as dottybacks can jump.
