Lepidiolamprologus elongatus
Also known as: Elongatus Cichlid, Spotted Elongatus
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
Lepidiolamprologus elongatus is one of the most potent predators in the Tanganyika lamprologine group, featuring a long streamlined body covered in an attractive dark-spotted pattern. It pursues and consumes smaller fish in the wild and will do the same in an aquarium. Pairs form for spawning in caves and the male aggressively guards a large territory.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, hard alkaline water; low nitrates essential. Tank: 200L+ per pair; large stone caves and open swimming lanes. Feeding: Carnivore pellet, frozen lance fish, krill; will consume small tank-mates — plan accordingly. Behaviour: Solitary apex predator when not breeding; forms pair briefly during spawning. Compatibility: Large Julidochromis, Neolamprologus tretocephalus, upper-water Cyprichromis only.
