Betta smaragdina
Origin: Thailand, Laos (northeastern Thailand and Laos)
Betta smaragdina, the Emerald Betta or Blue Smaragd Betta, is a wild species from northeastern Thailand and Laos prized for its brilliant emerald-green iridescent scales. Males are territorial but less aggressive than B. splendens, making them suitable for species tanks with ample cover. An excellent choice for aquarists looking to keep a wild betta for the first time.
Keep as 1 male with 1–2 females in a well-planted tank with caves and floating cover. Feed live and frozen meaty foods: bloodworms, artemia, daphnia. Soft to moderately hard water tolerated. Provide tight-fitting lid — excellent jumpers. Less aggressive than B. splendens but still territorial — do not house multiple males together.
