Corydoras splendens
Also known as: Emerald Catfish, Green Cory, Emerald Brochis
Origin: South America (Peru, Ecuador, Colombia — Amazon basin)
Corydoras splendens (formerly Brochis splendens) is larger and more robust than most corydoras, growing to 8 cm with a noticeably higher-arched back. It is widespread across the Amazon basin in Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia. The brilliant metallic green iridescence of its flanks is unrivalled among callichthyids and intensifies under good lighting. A peaceful, active schooling species well-suited to larger community aquariums.
Water: 22–26°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard (GH 2–15). Tank: 80 L minimum; fine sand substrate; good filtration to support its larger bioload. Feeding: Sinking pellets, wafers, frozen bloodworm, and blanched vegetables. Behaviour: Active schooler; most impressive in groups of 6 or more; diurnal. Compatibility: Peaceful with virtually all community species; excellent dither fish.
