Corydoras splendens
Origin: South America (Amazon basin, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil)
The Emerald Catfish (formerly Brochis splendens, now reclassified as Corydoras splendens) is a larger and more robust relative of standard corydoras with a brilliant iridescent emerald-green body. Its multi-rayed dorsal fin is a key distinguishing feature from typical cory species. Hardy and peaceful — an excellent choice for aquarists looking for a statement bottom-dweller.
Provide fine sand substrate. Keep in groups of 6+. Feed sinking wafers, frozen bloodworms, and varied meaty foods. Adaptable to a wide range of water conditions from 6.0–8.0 pH. Hardy and disease-resistant. Grows larger than most cories (to 9cm) — requires a correspondingly larger aquarium. An underrated and beautiful catfish.
