Poecilia wingei
Also known as: Endler's Livebearer, Endler Guppy
Origin: Laguna de los Patos, Venezuela
Poecilia wingei was discovered by John Endler in isolated lagoons in Venezuela in 1975. Males are tiny — barely 2.5 cm — but come in a dazzling array of wild and selectively bred colour forms. They are prolific livebearers that breed freely in the aquarium and are peaceful with virtually any tank mate that won't eat them.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 6.5–8.5, soft to hard — very adaptable. Tank: 20 L minimum; planted tank with floating plants; small, gentle filter. Feeding: Micro pellets, crushed flake, baby brine shrimp, algae-based foods. Behaviour: Active, peaceful; males display constantly to females; can hybridise with guppies. Compatibility: Compatible with all peaceful nano fish; avoid large fish that might eat them.
