Poecilia wingei 'El Silverado'
Also known as: El Silverado Endler, Silverado Endler's Livebearer
Origin: Captive bred (originally Laguna de Patos, Venezuela)
The El Silverado is one of the established pure wild-type Endler's livebearer strains maintained by collectors who prioritise genetic integrity over colour enhancement. Named for the silver-metallic flash that runs along the lateral line of males, this strain exhibits a more subtle colouration than captive-selected varieties but retains the authentic wild character of Poecilia wingei.
Pure Endler's strains like El Silverado are classified as Class P (pure) and are important for conservation of the wild genotype, as the natural Laguna de Patos population in Venezuela faces significant habitat pressures.
Keeping pure-strain Endler's means maintaining them in species-only tanks and carefully recording lineage to ensure no hybridisation with guppies.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 7.0–8.5, hard water; the original habitat is slightly brackish and hard. Tank: 30 L species tank; dense planting; document lineage to maintain Class P status. Feeding: Nano flake, micro worms, and baby brine shrimp; varied diet maintains health. Breeding: Very prolific; keep isolated from any guppy strains to maintain purity. Compatibility: Species tank only to preserve genetic integrity; no mixing with guppies or hybrid Endler's.
