Poecilia wingei var.
Also known as: Peacock Endler, Endler's Livebearer Peacock
Origin: Captive bred
The Peacock Endler's is a captive strain of Poecilia wingei in which selective breeding has produced a distinctive ocellus or eye-spot pattern on the caudal peduncle — a circular marking ringed in black and filled with green and orange iridescence, reminiscent of a peacock's tail feather.
Males display this pattern conspicuously during courtship and territorial interactions, making the aquarium remarkably active and visually interesting. At just 2.5 cm these fish are among the most intensely decorated per centimetre of any livebearer.
The Peacock pattern varies in size and regularity between individuals, and selecting for the clearest, most symmetrical eye-spots when breeding produces the most striking specimens.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 7.0–8.5, moderate to hard water. Tank: 30 L nano tank; heavily planted; sponge filter; low to moderate flow. Feeding: Nano flake, baby brine shrimp, and micro worms; frequent small feedings. Breeding: Very prolific; select breeding pairs for best eye-spot definition and symmetry. Compatibility: Peaceful; best with other small nano species; isolate from guppies.
