Apistogramma erythrura
Origin: Brazil (Mato Grosso state)
Apistogramma erythrura is an exceptionally rare species from Mato Grosso state in Brazil, named for the vivid red wash across the caudal fin of breeding males. Very few specimens reach the hobby, making it a prized find for advanced Apistogramma keepers. It requires very soft, warm water and a heavily planted tank with ample hiding places to express natural behaviours.
Maintain in very soft, warm acidic blackwater conditions (pH 4.5–6.0). Keep 1 male with 2–3 females in a heavily planted tank with leaf litter and caves. Feed live and frozen meaty foods: artemia, bloodworms, daphnia. Extremely sensitive to water quality — use RO water. An advanced species for dedicated Apistogramma specialists.
