Apistogramma eunotus
Origin: Peru, Brazil (Ucayali and Amazonas regions)
Apistogramma eunotus is a distinctive dwarf cichlid from the Ucayali and Amazonas regions of Peru and Brazil, featuring a high-arched dorsal profile, a vivid body stripe, and ornate dorsal fin spines that extend well above the body in males. Relatively hardy for the genus and can be kept in moderately soft, slightly acidic water. An active and visible inhabitant of a structured, planted aquarium.
Keep 1 male with 2–3 females. Provide caves, dense planting, and leaf litter. Feed live/frozen bloodworms, artemia, quality dwarf cichlid pellets. Soft to moderately soft water preferred. Females become strongly territorial around their breeding caves. Hardy for an Apistogramma — a good intermediate step after the more beginner-friendly species.
