Aulonocara jacobfreibergi
Also known as: Eureka Red Peacock, Eureka Peacock, Red Peacock
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa
The Eureka Red Peacock is a long-fin captive strain derived from Aulonocara jacobfreibergi, featuring rich red-orange pigmentation extending across the entire body and into the caudal and dorsal fins. Males colour up beautifully in clean, well-maintained alkaline water and are best displayed against a dark substrate to maximise their visual impact.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.5-9.0, very hard alkaline water; frequent partial changes to maintain clarity. Tank: Minimum 200L; fine dark sand substrate with moderate rockwork. Feeding: Quality pellets plus frozen mysis and brine shrimp; diet diversity enhances red pigmentation. Behaviour: Can be semi-aggressive; keep one male per harem of 3-4 females. Compatibility: Peacocks and docile haps only; long fins may invite nipping from mbuna.
