Brevibora dorsiocellata
Also known as: Eye-spot Rasbora, Ocellated Rasbora
Origin: Malay Peninsula, Sumatra
Brevibora dorsiocellata is a small schooling cyprinid from slow, shaded streams of the Thai-Malay Peninsula and Sumatra. Its most notable feature is the prominent dark spot ringed with lighter scales at the base of the dorsal fin — believed to function as a false eye to deter predators. Easy to keep and breed in captivity, it adapts to a range of water conditions and makes an ideal companion for other small community fish.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard (GH 3–12). Tank: 60 L minimum; planted tank with open midwater, subdued lighting preferred. Feeding: Omnivore — flakes, micro pellets, small live or frozen invertebrates. Behaviour: Peaceful schooler; keep 8+ for natural group dynamics. Compatibility: Excellent with tetras, rasboras, corydoras, and dwarf shrimp.
