About
Aulonocara jacobfreibergi is found along steep rocky shores throughout Lake Malawi and is one of the more widely distributed Aulonocara. Males can grow to 15cm and develop outstanding orange-red and blue colouration across the dorsal, caudal, and anal fins. Multiple locality variants exist, each with slightly different colour expressions.
Care Guide
Water: 24-28°C, pH 7.5-8.5, hard alkaline; weekly 25-30% water changes. Tank: 250L minimum with rock structures and open sandy foraging zones. Feeding: Quality cichlid pellets and meaty frozen foods such as mysis or krill. Behaviour: Males vigorously defend territories; keep one male to several females. Compatibility: Best with other non-Aulonocara haps; avoid mixing with close peacock relatives.
