Corydoras leucomelas
Origin: Peru, Colombia, Venezuela (western Amazon and Orinoco drainages)
Corydoras leucomelas is a widespread and adaptable species from the western Amazon and Orinoco drainages, featuring a pale body covered in bold dark spots and a distinctive black blotch on the dorsal fin. Often confused with C. melanistius due to similar patterning. An undemanding and hardy species, ideal for beginner aquarists seeking a robust and attractive cory.
Provide fine sand substrate. Keep in groups of 6+. Feed sinking wafers, frozen bloodworms, and small meaty foods. Hardy and adaptable to a wide range of soft to moderately hard water. Sensitive to ammonia and nitrite. A reliable and under-appreciated beginner cory with attractive patterning.
